Gate Lane Resurfacing works

Island Roads have notified us of improvement works known as ‘Surface Dressing’ that are due to take place at Gate Lane Freshwater Bay.  They have provided the following information and guidance, to enable you to plan accordingly. During this work no on-street parking and no vehicle through access will be permitted within the areas of closure.

As this site is part of a three-week rolling programme, please note that there are a variety of factors including emergency works and especially inclement weather that may affect the timing of works. Please watch the on-site boards for confirmation/changes of the start date / duration.

Timing of the works:

  • Surface Dressing works are due to start on one day during week commencing 6th May 2024 for approximately 1 shift.
  • Works will take place during the day between 09:30 – 16:30.
  • The works will be followed by a sealant treatment approximately 4 days later, under a road closure which will take no longer than 1 hour.
  • In between the road will be swept by a mechanical sweeper several times. Please ensure that you look out for the sweeper and move your vehicle to avoid delays.
  • Advance warning boards with start and end dates will be erected before works commence.

Location

·         Gate Lane, Freshwater (area shown on map)

Time of works

·         09:30 – 16:30 (on each day / this may include weekends depending on programme progress)

Safety measures during works:

·         A road closure will be required throughout the works.

·         Vehicle access will be prohibited at all times within the area of works, to provide safety for the workforce, road users and members of the public.

·         Only if it is safe to do so, resident access may be maintained within the road closure extent.

·         Should you require your vehicle during the dates of work we would recommend parking in an alternative location.

·         “No Parking” cones will be placed out the night prior to works commencing.

·          Access for pedestrians and cyclists will not be maintained.

·         Emergency vehicle access will be maintained. We work closely with the emergency services and will assist the emergency services to safely pass through the site, should they need to access the works area in the event of an emergency.

·         We would ask that you do not park within the confines of the works or any areas that have had “no parking” cones put out before the start of the works and for the duration of the works. Failure to do so will result in your vehicle being moved.

Important Information

Whilst the works are being undertaken, please do not drive on the wet (black) bituminous surface, as this will mark your car and driveways, this will be quickly covered over with small stone. Please don’t walk or allow your pets to walk over the freshly laid material because it may stick to footwear (and paws) which could be transferred onto carpets, internal floors, and driveways.  We won’t be held liable for any damage caused in this way, as it is your responsibility to ensure that items are clean before entering your property.
