We’ve been asked about our Parish seal. This was presented to the Parish by Hallam Tennyson in 1894 at the first parish meeting. The seal shows a dragon like creature (although the head appears to be more rodent than fire breathing beast).
We’ve had an interesting morning trying to find out more detail about this but it’s possible we will never know the correct answer. It could possibly represent the Kraken, a mythical beast known to attack ships along the coast of Norway and the subject of a sonnet written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson and published in 1830.
If anyone has any information or ideas on this we’d love to know.
