Isle of Wight Council has recently released its housing needs assessment. This shows a need for 68 dwellings per annum for the West Wight. It is likely that Freshwater will be seen as able to accommodation the most development. There is also said to be a particular need for smaller affordable homes.

The assessment also identifies an expected substantial increase in the over 65 population which will require specialist housing for older persons.

The housing needs assessment will be used to shape policy and work is already underway on the review of the Island Core Strategy. Freshwater Parish Council will aim to influence this for the local area and as always the views of residents are welcomed.
