In September, Island Roads will be replacing the deck of Yarmouth Bridge in its entirety. This is the first time the complete deck has been replaced since 2009 and the work will ensure the longevity of the bridge while also reducing the need for future maintenance.
The project is anticipated to bring about some inconvenience, which is why we have planned to commence the work in late September. This timing falls after the peak holiday season and aligns with the expectation of favorable weather conditions, as certain materials require mild and dry weather for deployment.
The work is scheduled to begin on Monday September 23rd for a duration of eight weeks. During work, the bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic and a diversion for motor vehicles will be in place via Wilmingham Lane, the Middle Road and the A3055. This is the usual diversion in place when the bridge is closed.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the work. Access across the bridge will also be maintained for cyclists though riders will need to dismount while crossing the structure itself.
The bridge will be in a closed position during work. However, we are currently working with Yarmouth Harbour Master to explore options to open the bridge outside of working hours.
We will keep the community informed of any developments or changes to the current plan. Information boards will also be displayed on site prior to work commencing as a reminder.
We apologise for any inconvenience that may arise from this work; however, we emphasise its importance in maintaining the bridge’s structural integrity and minimising the requirement for future deck maintenance.
